Company activities >> Iron ore

The main activity of Prominvest SA is the trade of iron ore: fines, lumps, concentrate, pellets, sinter ore, agglomerate and other metallic as a result of a long lasting close cooperation with the leading iron ore sources, including the major Russian and Ukrainian mines. The most important East European steel mills, as well as Turkish and Chinese, are among the end users regularly reached by Prominvest SA. The best annual performance quantity-wise was reached in the year 2003: over 8 million metric tons, being approximately 25% of the overall export of iron ore from Russia and Ukraine.

Prominvest SA was the first supplier of Russian iron ore to the Chinese market, delivering since December 2003 iron ore concentrate ex Korshunovsky GOK and iron ore pellets ex Kachkanarsky, Mikhailovsky, Kostomuksha and Lebedinsky GOK and introducing Kovdorsky GOK concentrate in 2006. It is quite significant that the goal of 50 million tons of material delivered since the beginning of the Company’s activity was reached in the first quarter of 2007 with a supply of Kovodorsky GOK concentrate to China.
Prominvest SA strengthened its worldwide reputation on the market of iron ore by reopening the export of Liberian concentrate and pellets, thus reviving a source that had remained unattainable for the customers for almost 20 years. Starting from 2009 the company has established an important relationship with the newly reopened Norwegian iron ore mine of Sydvaranger, shipping their iron ore concentrate mainly to China. As of today Prominvest SA keeps supplying its traditional Chinese and European clients and has recently started deliveries in the Serbian market.
